The first ever 100% carbon neutral British Travel Awards, held last night in Battersea, thanks to CNI UK Limited (CNI) off-setting all the event’s emissions
London, 3 November 2011 – Battersea Evolution in Battersea Park saw the glittering 2011 British Travel Awards take place last night, and for the first time, the entire event could boast 100% carbon neutrality thanks to a new partnership with CNI.
The British Travel Awards celebrates the work of the UK’s best travel companies, with over 700,000 industry votes cast in deciding 2011’s winners. This year’s major winners were Thomson – collecting no fewer than 18 awards – followed closely by Thomas Cook, Virgin and Emirates airlines.
British Travel Awards Chief Executive, Lorraine Barnes-Burton, said: “We are delighted to have teamed-up with voluntary emissions reduction specialists, CNI, to make our event 100% carbon neutral this year. Clearly, this is a travel intensive industry, so it is very important to reassure our guests on awards night that no matter how they travel to the event, they can do so with a clean, green conscience.”
Edward Carlton, CNI Director, added: “The British Travel Awards is the organisation that recognises outstanding performance in the UK travel industry, and in becoming totally carbon neutral, is sending out a strong and responsible message across the sector. We hope this will resonate across the industry and look forward to helping others become carbon neutral, in the efficient and cost-effective manner in which CNI specialises.”
The projects supported by CNI and the British Travel Awards in off-setting last night’s event already are resulting in the creation of much needed employment, and supporting local communities with advanced procurement services and the development of new infrastructure.
